The Three Mile Island Scam
How Gov. Josh Shapiro, Rep. Tom Mehaffie, and Billionaire Elites Are Selling Out Pennsylvanians for Corporate Greed
Pennsylvania finds itself at a critical juncture in determining its energy future. On one side, we have the incredible abundance of natural gas, a resource that could power our homes, factories, and businesses affordably for generations. On the other, we have Governor Josh Shapiro and his close ally, so-called ‘Republican’ Rep. Tom Mehaffie of PA-106, pushing to reopen the infamous Three Mile Island nuclear plant.
But here's the catch: this isn't for the benefit of Pennsylvania’s hardworking families. It’s designed to serve Microsoft’s artificial intelligence operations—using your taxpayer dollars.
What's worse, Shapiro and Mehaffie are packaging this nuclear power revival under the guise of "clean energy" and "grid modernization." But don't be fooled. This isn't about securing Pennsylvania’s energy future, lowering energy costs, or bolstering grid reliability. It's about enriching corporate elites like Bill Gates and the Silicon Valley titans who back this venture, while passing the financial burden onto Pennsylvania taxpayers.
The Relic of Three Mile Island: A Costly and Dangerous Past
We can't talk about Three Mile Island without mentioning the catastrophic failure it's known for. In 1979, the plant experienced the worst nuclear disaster in American history, creating fear, distrust, and massive financial fallout. The fallout was so severe that even to this day, the plant is a symbol of nuclear energy's dangers.
As a lifelong resident of Pennsylvania’s 106th District, which includes Three Mile Island, I have spoken to countless neighbors and community members who still remember the impact of that disaster. Many are rightfully wary of reopening the plant. Yet, Shapiro and Mehaffie want to resurrect this relic of the past, hoping to sell it as a “solution” to our energy problems. But in reality, reopening this plant is a financial and environmental time bomb.
Even worse, this plan isn’t designed to lower energy costs for Pennsylvania families or improve grid resilience. No, this project is aimed at serving Microsoft’s AI systems. Your hard-earned tax dollars are being funneled into a project that exists purely to power the ambitions of one of the richest corporations in the world. Let that sink in for a moment. While families across the state struggle to pay rising energy bills, their tax dollars will be spent on an energy source that benefits Microsoft—not the people of Pennsylvania.
Nuclear Power: Expensive, Dangerous, and Insured by the Government
Proponents of nuclear energy often claim it is a clean and efficient solution to our energy needs. But the truth is far less rosy. Nuclear energy remains one of the most expensive and least reliable forms of power. Reopening a decommissioned plant like Three Mile Island would cost billions of dollars—money that Shapiro and Mehaffie intend to pull from Pennsylvania taxpayers. And when it comes to the safety of nuclear power, it’s not just critics raising concerns—it’s the insurance industry.
As Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has rightly pointed out:
“What I’ve always said . . . is I’m all for nuclear power if you can make it safe and if you can make it economical, and right now . . . it’s not me saying it’s unsafe, [but] the insurance industry regards this nuclear power as so unsafe that they will not give them an insurance policy.”
Kennedy also brought up the Price-Anderson Act, which, according to him, “absolves [the nuclear industry] from liability,” and he bemoaned the tritiated water storage at Fukushima before briefly mentioning Chernobyl. In other words, the government steps in and covers the risks that private insurers won’t touch—because the risks are too great.
If nuclear energy were so safe and cost-effective, private insurance companies would be lining up to cover these plants. But they’re not. The government has to step in to cover potential damages—damages that could reach catastrophic levels in the event of an accident. We've seen what can happen when things go wrong, whether it’s Chernobyl or the tritiated water storage disaster at Fukushima. Yet, Shapiro and Mehaffie want to charge ahead with this risky endeavor, despite all the warnings.
Bill Gates' Agenda: A Play for Power and Profit
It’s no coincidence that this nuclear revival aligns perfectly with the financial interests of Bill Gates. Gates, through his investments in nuclear energy and AI, stands to gain enormously from the reopening of Three Mile Island. While Shapiro and Mehaffie claim this plan will benefit Pennsylvanians, the reality is that it’s designed to benefit the tech oligarchs. Gates, who founded TerraPower to promote nuclear technology, is at the center of this scheme.
This is crony capitalism at its worst. Instead of fighting for the interests of their constituents, Shapiro and Mehaffie are selling out hardworking Pennsylvanians to curry favor with billionaires like Gates, who are pouring money into AI and nuclear energy. Let’s be clear: if Gates and Microsoft want to build nuclear plants to power their AI, they should pay for it—not you. But that’s not how this game works. They want you to foot the bill so they can reap the rewards.
Higher Costs for Pennsylvanians, More Profits for the Elites
The claim that reopening Three Mile Island will benefit Pennsylvanians is either a gross misunderstanding or a deliberate deception. This nuclear plant will only serve Microsoft’s AI data centers, while the rest of Pennsylvania continues to suffer under the Biden-Harris energy agenda, which Shapiro and Mehaffie are actively supporting.
Even if nuclear power were available to Pennsylvania’s residents, it would come with a steep price. Nuclear energy is NOT cheap, and when the inevitable maintenance and safety costs skyrocket, the burden will fall on consumers. Energy bills will rise exponentially, not fall, as politicians like Shapiro and Mehaffie continue to pander to the global elite at the expense of ordinary families.
The Real Solution: Pennsylvania’s Natural Gas
While Shapiro and Mehaffie push this high-cost, high-risk nuclear project, they’re ignoring the obvious solution that lies right beneath our feet. Pennsylvania is blessed with one of the largest natural gas reserves in the world. Natural gas is cleaner than coal, far cheaper than nuclear, and far more reliable than so-called “green energy” alternatives. The natural gas industry has already helped drive down energy costs across the state, creating thousands of jobs and boosting our economy.
So why are Shapiro and Mehaffie ignoring this abundant, affordable resource? Because natural gas doesn’t benefit the corporate elites funding their political campaigns. It benefits the hardworking families of Pennsylvania—the very people they’re supposed to serve, but seem all too eager to sell out.
A Bigger Agenda: Control and Compliance
This battle isn’t just about energy—it’s about control. The global elites, like Gates, pushing for nuclear power and AI dominance don’t care about Pennsylvania’s future or its families. They care about maintaining control, amassing more wealth, and dictating the future of energy on their terms. And Shapiro and Mehaffie are playing right into their hands.
Let’s not forget that this isn’t the first time Rep. Tom Mehaffie has aligned himself with these far-left, elite-driven agendas. He, Governor Shapiro and the Democrats fully supported (and voted for) former Democrat Gov. Wolf’s unconstitutional carbon tax (Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative) the Northeastern equivalent to the Paris Climate Accord which would cost Pennsylvania taxpayers $700M a year.
Mehaffie also sponsored the “Energy Efficiency Act,” a bill designed to eliminate gas stoves and affordable appliances, fining those who refused to comply. Like that disastrous legislation, reopening Three Mile Island is just another attempt to impose an agenda that benefits the few at the expense of the many.
It’s about using your tax dollars to enrich a small group of elites while burdening you with higher energy costs and a more fragile grid. The very people who claim to be champions of “the little guy” are the ones selling you out to the highest bidder.
Conclusion: Pennsylvanians Deserve Leaders Who Fight for Them
Reopening Three Mile Island isn’t just a bad idea—it’s a betrayal of every Pennsylvanian who works hard to pay their bills, provide for their families, and build a better future. Josh Shapiro and Tom Mehaffie are using your tax dollars to benefit corporate elites like Bill Gates, all while promising you lower energy costs that will never materialize.
We don’t need expensive, dangerous nuclear plants to power AI for Silicon Valley billionaires. We need affordable, reliable energy that benefits the people of Pennsylvania. Natural gas is that solution—it’s proven, it’s here, and it works. If Shapiro and Mehaffie really cared about Pennsylvania’s future, they would stop pandering to billionaires and start focusing on the needs of their constituents.
Pennsylvanians deserve leaders who fight for them, not for the global elite. It’s time we demand accountability and energy policies that serve us—not the interests of billionaires funding political campaigns.
