A Deafening Silence: PA-106 Rep. Tom Mehaffie’s Inexcusable Inaction During Pennsylvania's Darkest Hour
As Pennsylvania grapples with the aftermath of a near-assassination of President Trump and the murder of a heroic father, GOP State Rep. Tom Mehaffie remains shockingly silent.
Pennsylvania is still grappling with the anguish from one of the darkest weekends in our Commonwealth’s and nation’s history. President Donald J. Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt, and tragically, a heroic Pennsylvanian was murdered while defending his beloved family. This event was absolutely devastating.
In moments of such profound horror, the public looks to their leaders—those whose salaries are funded by taxpayer dollars—for words of solace and actions of substance. Since that dreadful day, numerous elected officials from both parties have expressed their deep sorrow, condemned the violence, and offered prayers for the families affected by this tragedy.
Thankfully, for Central Pennsylvanians, our GOP Congressman, Scott Perry, demonstrated what a leader should always do. Perry immediately spoke out following the attack, offering prayers for President Trump and the nation.
First thing Monday morning, Perry once again took to X to announce that he and his GOP House colleagues would be actively pursuing justice on behalf of those families, his constituents and the American people who deserve answers. His campaign also posted a heartwarming tribute to the brave Pennsylvanian who lost his life.
That’s what a real leader does. But sadly, for some of us who live in Perry’s 10th Congressional District, our so-called "Republican" State Representative, Tom Mehaffie, has remained conspicuously silent.
As a lifelong resident of Pennsylvania's 106th legislative district, I share the profound disappointment of many in our so-called "GOP" state legislator. Our dismay is not about Mehaffie's status as a Never Trumper. It's not about his near-decade in Harrisburg, taking donor dollars and serving corrupt left-wing special interests. Nor is it about his failed record of voting for the Democrats' radical Pennsylvania Last Agenda. Instead, it is about his failure to demonstrate leadership and strength when his constituents and fellow Pennsylvanians need it most.
Mehaffie's silence reflects an indifference to the brave father and husband who lost his life protecting his family from a mentally unstable political extremist with a loaded gun. The issue here is not the firearm itself but our toxic, polarized political climate, precipitated by the corrupt left-wing mainstream media and spineless failed leaders like Mehaffie who fail to exhibit the caliber of leadership and moral courage we so desperately need.
While Mehaffie has a long history of choosing his own self-interests and political expedience over what is morally right, he cannot possibly use that as an excuse. Sure, showing sympathy for an event involving the Democrats' political enemy, Donald J. Trump, might harm the cozy relationship he has cultivated with them, along with Joe Biden’s biggest political donors, who Mehaffie is also owned by. However, Mehaffie knows full well that he already has the support of Governor Shapiro and Harrisburg Democrats, along with every union, lobbyist, and left-wing special interest in the Commonwealth.
It's widely known that even though he is technically a "Republican" on paper, Mehaffie is the Democrats' clear choice for PA-106. That became apparent when many left-wing groups refused to endorse his Democrat opponent, Dr. Anju Singh, and the PA Democrat House Speaker even asked the candidate to drop out of the race. They challenged her signatures when that failed and disqualified her from the ballot.
His Democrat opponent, Dr. Anju Singh, is only on the general election ballot now because she mounted a successful write-in campaign against the PA Democrat machine. Yet, the deck will always remain stacked in Mehaffie's favor, and everybody, including him, knows that.
Therefore, political expedience and the need to appease his left-wing backers is not a valid reason for his silence on this tragedy. It’s also not about him not knowing how to post on social media. Last month, he took to Facebook to post about Governor Shapiro’s visit to the district practically immediately after it occurred.
But even his buddy, Shapiro, had the decency to speak out and condemn last weekend’s horrendous act of political violence. So, what is it then?
Sadly, this boils down to Tom Mehaffie's sheer incompetence.
Over the weekend, he said nothing about the attack. Then, the first post on his Facebook page this week was about a texting scam. The next post was him whining about how the PA budget didn't include taxpayer funding for the corrupt energy company that donates to his campaigns.
While his constituents were frantic this past weekend, Mehaffie was probably busy at his multi-million dollar beach mansion in Delaware. It has now been three full days and he has STILL said absolutely nothing. As always, his concern was, and will always be, himself.
Despite Mehaffie's failures, the residents of PA-106 will continue to stand strong. We will pray for the family of the fallen, for President Trump’s safety, and for the future of our Commonwealth and country. Everything happens for a reason, and more people every day are waking up to the truth about the Democrats’ radical America Last Agenda than ever before.
Over the last many months, the tide has been turning in Pennsylvania due to the relentless efforts of prominent grassroots groups such as Scott Presler’s Early Vote Action, Turning Point Action, and PA Chase.
I have had the honor and privilege of working alongside these incredible patriots, meeting Pennsylvanians where they are at gun and car shows, rallies, county fairs, and truck stops, and registering countless new GOP voters here in Dauphin County and across our Commonwealth.
Now, I can guarantee that those efforts will increase tenfold. This is the most critical election cycle of our lifetimes. Pennsylvania wins the White House, and our goal is to flip this state red.
However, to do that, our priority in Dauphin County must be getting President Donald J. Trump and Congressman Scott Perry re-elected in November so our community will have the caliber of leadership we deserve.
Then, after that happens, it’s time to replace worthless career politicians like Rep. Tom Mehaffie, who don’t belong in elected office.
The best is yet to come.
